Saturn Ion Transmission Problems
Saturn has had many problems with its VTI transmissions, both in the VUE and the Ion. Symptoms are slipping, loss of power, grinding noises, clunking, and "no go" (you press the accelerator and the transmission does not move the car). There have been class actions on both VUE's and Ion's. The suits allege General Motors knew the transmissions were inherently defective before the lines were released. If they did not know it beforehand, they certainly knew it afterward. General Motors replaced many failed transmissions within the warranty time with the same faulty parts, resulting in the same problem. Many of our clients experienced a second transmission failure outside the warranty and Saturn/GM tried to force them to pay for a new transmission themselves. They were quoted $3,000 to $5,000 for the replacement, if a transmission could be found. The problem is, replacing a defective transmission with another defective transmission is not going to solve the problem. Additionally, General Motors, the parent of Saturn Corporation has been required to recall nearly 200,000 Saturn Ions to repair lights and turn signals. From 2002 to 2004, 261,000 Vue's and 227,000 Ion's were sold. I have been representing VUE and Ion owners on an individual basis, seeking a full repurchase under California's Lemon Law.
